Fast & Furious Motive Becomes More Obvious

Too often missing from Fast & Furious coverage is the most appalling aspect of the scandal — the motive, which apparently was to undermine our Second Amendment liberties:
ATF officials didn’t intend to publicly disclose their own role in letting Mexican cartels obtain the weapons, but emails show they discussed using the sales, including sales encouraged by ATF, to justify a new gun regulation called “Demand Letter 3″. That would require some U.S. gun shops to report the sale of multiple rifles or “long guns.” Demand Letter 3 was so named because it would be the third ATF program demanding gun dealers report tracing information.

Gun dealers, attempting the impossible task of behaving responsibly and at the same time obeying our rogue government, saw what was coming:
In April, 2010 a licensed gun dealer cooperating with ATF was increasingly concerned about selling so many guns. “We just want to make sure we are cooperating with ATF and that we are not viewed as selling to the bad guys,” writes the gun dealer to ATF Phoenix officials, “(W)e were hoping to put together something like a letter of understanding to alleviate concerns of some type of recourse against us down the road for selling these items.” …

Two months later, the same gun dealer grew more agitated.

“I wanted to make sure that none of the firearms that were sold per our conversation with you and various ATF agents could or would ever end up south of the border or in the hands of the bad guys. I guess I am looking for a bit of reassurance that the guns are not getting south or in the wrong hands… I want to help ATF with its investigation but not at the risk of agents (sic) safety because I have some very close friends that are US Border Patrol agents in southern AZ as well as my concern for all the agents (sic) safety that protect our country.”

“It’s like ATF created or added to the problem so they could be the solution to it and pat themselves on the back,” says one law enforcement source familiar with the facts. “It’s a circular way of thinking.”

Creating a problem so that they can make a bigger problem with their ham-fisted attempts to fix it is Big Government’s M.O. to a T.
On July 12, 2011, Sen. [Charles] Grassley [R-IA] and Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., wrote Attorney General Eric Holder, whose Justice Department oversees ATF. They asked Holder whether officials in his agency discussed how “Fast and Furious could be used to justify additional regulatory authorities.” So far, they have not received a response. …

“In light of the evidence, the Justice Department’s refusal to answer questions about the role Operation Fast and Furious was supposed to play in advancing new firearms regulations is simply unacceptable,” Rep. Issa told CBS News.

No wonder Obama is willing to resort to the extremely desperate measure of inappropriately exerting executive privilege to keep F&F documents from becoming public. If they confirm that he explicitly approved providing weapons to foreign drug cartels so that he could use the inevitably ensuing bloodshed to undermine the Constitution he is sworn to uphold, he should be tried for treason.

AR:  Man shoots and kills woman (above), claims self defense:  "Police were called to a robbery in the 2600 block of West 28th Avenue early Tuesday morning and found a woman dead. A man told police he shot the woman in self defense after she carjacked him. Ryan Bishop, 20, told police that 22-year-old Tarshara Banister jumped in his truck held him at gunpoint and took his wallet. He says she then ordered him to drive to an ATM where he says he was forced to attempt to withdraw money.  Bishops says they fought over the gun and he shot Banister in self defense. Police are still investigating the incident."

The importance of the 2012 US senate elections:  "Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton have put the United States Constitution and the Second Amendment in a precarious position. Hillary is pushing the United States to sign onto the United Nations 'Arms Trade Treaty' which, if ratified by the U.S. Senate, would put America’s gun rights under the regulation of the U.N. That’s reason number two why we must take back the Senate and get the gavel out of Harry Reid’s hands. But that’s still not all."

Critical email:  "A single internal Department of Justice email could be the smoking-gun document in the Operation Fast and Furious scandal — if it turns out to contain what congressional investigators have said it does.  The document would establish that wiretap application documents show senior DOJ officials knew about and approved the gunwalking tactic in Fast and Furious. This is the opposite of what Attorney General Eric Holder and House oversight committee ranking Democratic member Rep. Elijah Cummings have claimed.  It appears that email would also prove senior DOJ officials, likely including Holder himself, knew in March 2011 that a Feb. 4, 2011 letter from the DOJ to Iowa Republican Sen. Chuck Grassley falsely denied guns were permitted to “walk” into Mexico. The DOJ allowed that false letter to stand for nine more months, only withdrawing it in December 2011.  “We need to see it [the email] to corroborate his testimony,” Grassley said during the June 12 hearing. “But the Department is withholding that email along with every other document after Feb. 4, 2011.”
